Black and white Bollywood photos poster for sale: Sultana Daku (1972).

Featured here is an original Bollywood poster of the old 1972 Hindi action drama directed by Mohammed Hussain that starred award-winning, worldwide-undefeated wrestler turned Bollywood actor Dara Singh in the titular role of Daku Sultana.

Produced by AV Mohan and presented under the Sangam Films banner, Sultana Daku (1972) also starred Helen, Ajit, Padma Khanna, Shaminder, D.K. Sapru, Bhagwan and Kamal Mehra in supporting roles.

The film was a period drama set during British occupation of India. It told the story of an honest and brave man called Sultana (Dara Singh) who is engaged to a beautiful woman in his clan called Tara (Helen). The two are childhood friends who adore each other and are looking forward to start a new phase in their life. However, everything changes when the wealthy landlord of the Bijnor area, Thakur Ajit Singh comes across Tara and is enamored by her beauty and feisty nature. He orders his henchmen to kidnap Tara and bring her to his mansion. Sultana’s father intervenes to save Tara, but is beaten up badly in the process. When Thakur is about to rape Tara in his mansion, Sultana arrives in the nick of time and saves her. Thakur is humiliated and vows to avenge the beating he has suffered at the hands of Sultana. Using his wealth and influence, Thakur files a false complaint at the police station accusing Sultana of breaking and entering into his mansion and committing robbery. The British captain at the station buys into his testimony and sends a team to arrest Sultana. When the team arrives, Sultana is nowhere to be found as he has gone to get medicines for his injured father. In a fit of rage, the police team destroy the camp and forcibly arrest members of his clan. When Sultana arrives at the camp, he is shocked to see it completely devastated. His father, on his last breath, makes Sultana promise that he will save his clan members from the British who have captured them. Sultana arrives at the British fort where his clan has been held and is arrested along with them. Staging a prison fight, Sultana makes a daring escape along with select clan members. They steal arms and ammunition from the prison guards before leaving. In the fight that ensues, one of the violent clan members called Sher Singh shoots and kills some of the guards. As a result, the clan loses their only chance to prove their innocence and are branded murderers and dacoits by the British, who set out to eliminate them. Sultana is selected as the head of the gang and he accepts on one condition: The clan must adhere to his stringent morals and rules. They will only loot the rich who have made their wealth by oppressing and exploiting the poor and never harm the innocent. Thus, Daku Sultana, a Robin Hood like figure is born. He loots ill gotten wealth from corrupt merchants and landlords, distributing them freely among the poor. The British assign Captain Young (Ajit) to arrest and bring Sultana to justice.

Printed and circulated during the film’s release run in theaters (somewhere in the 1970s), this Sultana Daku poster was designed for publicity of the film but never ended up being used.
