Featured here is an original Bollywood poster of the 1999 cult classic Hindi film written and directed by E.V.V. Satyanarayana that featured the greatest superstar of Bollywood, Amitabh Bachchan in a double role opposite actresses Soundarya and Jayasudha, both of who made their Bollywood debut with the film.

Actress Rekha dubbed for both south Indian actresses, Soundarya and Jayasudha in the film. Produced by G.A. Seshagiri Rao (G.A. Sheeshagari) and released under the Padmalaya Combines banner, Sooryavansham (1999) also starred Rachna Banerjee, Jaya Kapoor, Anupam Kher, Kader Khan, Mukesh Rishi, Shivaji Satam and Bindu in supporting roles.

Shot primarily in Gujarat and Sri Lanka, Sooryavansham (1999) was a remake of the Tamil film Surya Vamsam (1997). It told the story of estranged father and son duo Thakur Bhanu Pratap Singh (Amitabh) and his illiterate son Heera (also played by Amitabh). Thakur Bhanu Pratap Singh is a highly respected and revered head of Bharatpur village. As an elected Sarpanch (President), he rules with power, delivering swift justice to the poor and the oppressed. His dream is to build a hospital for the welfare of the villages he presides over. Heera is abhorred by his father due to his illiteracy and is kept out of family matters, living almost like a servant in his own house doing menial jobs for the family. Despite the ill treatment, Heera respects his father and idolizes him. When Heera marries Radha (Soundarya) against his father’s wishes, he is disowned. Evil landlord Deshraj Thakur (Mukesh Rishi) tries to use the estrangement between father and son to his advantage and eliminate Thakur Bhanu Pratap Singh so that he gain gain supremacy in the village. In the meanwhile, Heera establishes himself, starting out as a laborer and finally becoming the proud owner of a flourishing transport business. Radha cracks the coveted UPSC exam for becoming an IAS officer and is appointed as the District Collector. Will Heera be able to reconcile with his father and fulfill his father’s dream of building a hospital for the poor?

The film was a disaster at the box office but later went on to achieve cult status, becoming one of the most replayed films on Sony Max television channel. As of March 2025, the film has 556 Million views on YouTube, making this rare original Sooryavansham poster, highly collectible!

The soundtrack of Sooryavansham (1999) was composed by Anu Malik. It featured hit songs such as, “Peepal Ke Patwa” sung by Sonu Nigam & Jaspinder Narula, “Dil Mere Tu Deewana Hai” sung by Kumar Sanu and “Kore Kore Sapne” sung by Kumar Sanu & Anuradha Paudwal.
