It tells the story of Devdas (Shahrukh Khan), a wealthy young man who spirals into alcoholism after his childhood love Paro (Aishwarya Rai) is married off to another man. He seeks solace in the companionship of the courtesan Chandramukhi (Madhuri Dixit) but remains haunted by his lost love.
